2024 School Sport NZ Event Calendar

School Sport NZ are pleased to release the 2024 calendar of sanctioned National and Island Secondary School events to schools. The 2024 School Sport NZ Event Calendar can be found on our website HERE

Please Note:  All details are correct at the time of release, but unforeseen changes may occur. Some NSOs are still confirming dates and venues.  Any changes will be posted on the School Sport NZ website so please check regularly. Entry information and material as well as Health & Safety Plans for all events will also be posted on the School Sport NZ website so it is your first stop for all event information. The online calendar allows users to import the calendar into their google or outlook calendars and has the functionality to provide a month-by-month view for quick access to events.  There is also a search function for users.

With almost 250 events available to schools and students in 2024, there will be no shortage of opportunities. The tiered approach to the calendar of events is an opportunity for NSOs to bring to life many of the principles of the Sport NZ ‘Balance is Better’ strategy aimed at engaging more of our rangatahi in sport and physical activity.  There are 113 Championships, 90 Cups and 44 Carnivals.

We are also excited that for the first time on the School Sport NZ calendar, to have the National Skateboarding Championships.  This will be held in Auckland during Winter Tournament Week. It's inclusion is on the back of several regional events that have been held throughout the country and a recently held pilot event in 2023.  It’s inclusion on the calendar highlights the need for diverse and new opportunities.  The sport will be on display at the Paris Olympics in August which is sure to inspire. There are a few events that have returned, after a short break.  We welcome back Canoe Sprint which will run concurrently with Waka Ama during Summer Tournament Week at Lake Tikitapu.  This is a great example of two codes working together to share infrastructure and resource.  There is also a South Island event in October that we will look forward to.

Co-ordinating a calendar of this size to meet the needs of both schools and sport in terms of timing, eligibility, cost, venues and health and safety is a complex process and we wish to thank all NSOs and event organisers for taking part in the sanctioning process over the past few months.

It was great to get back to a bit of normality in 2023, and we look forward to being able to deliver a full programme of exciting opportunities to schools and students in 2024 and students pulling on a school jersey and having fun with their friends.
